<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a porous honeycomb structure which effectively prevents cracks from being generated on the porous honeycomb structure itself or the porous honeycomb structure from collapsing by the self-weight in the firing of a formed body. <P>SOLUTION: The porous honeycomb structure is obtained by the steps of: mixing and kneading at least an aggregate particle raw material composed of a silicon-containing non-oxide ceramic or a metal, water, an organic binder, a pore forming agent and an alkali metal source to form a green body; forming the green body into a honeycomb form having plurality of cells to serve as the flow passages of a fluid; drying to obtain a honeycomb formed body; preliminarily calcining the honeycomb formed body to form a preliminary calcined body; and then normally firing the calcined body. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
