PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel multifunctional iodine compound which exhibits excellent non-toxicity and enables shielding of short-wavelength electromagnetic waves. SOLUTION: A novel 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid derivative represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each a linear or branched alkylamino or alkoxyl group and each bears at least one polymerizable group such as vinyl group, acryloyl group or methacryloyl group; and R<SP>6</SP>is hydrogen atom, or a linear or branched alkyl group or an acyl group) is synthesized by introducing a polymerizable unsaturated group into 5-amino-2,4,6-triiodoisophthalic acid.
