PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cultivating burdocks, which requires no large-scale equipment such as a hydroponics apparatus, avoids winter dormancy by seed treatment and harvests early dug burdocks in a season conventionally regarded as the between-crop season of early dug burdocks. SOLUTION: Water is absorbed in burdock seeds in flowing water, the water-absorbed seeds are treated at a low temperature in the dark for a fixed period. Consequently, the burdock seeds are not dormant in winter even in sowing before the latter part of October, two or more green leaves are secured, hypertrophy of roots is promoted and early dug burdocks are harvested in a season from January to March conventionally regarded as the between-crop season of early dug burdocks. Early dug burdocks are obtained in a stable yield by application to early dug burdocks in November to December before the end of the year. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
