<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of extremely shortening the time for switching developing apparatuses and consequently capable of achieving high productivity. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with image carriers 1a and 1b, and three or more developing apparatuses 41 to 46 held by rotary developing device holding parts 4a and 4b so as to form developer images on the image carriers. The apparatus comprises a one-way-rotation image forming mode of successively forming the developer images on the image carriers with the one-way rotation of the rotary developing apparatus holding parts 4a and 4b and a reciprocal-rotation image forming mode of forming the developer images on the image carriers by using two developing apparatuses with the reciprocal rotation of the rotary developing apparatus holding parts 4a and 4b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
