In order to transport lasts (mechanically) into and out of adjacently-situated. moulds, lasttransporting elements having individual power drives are provided of which some are movable independently of others, some are adapted to move certain of the lasts into and out of the moulds, and one is adapted to move all the lasts laterally in front of the moulds. As shown in, Figs. 2 and 3, two pairs of lasts 8a, 9a and 10b, 11b are situated on a work table 12 provided with tracks 14 for movement of the lasts into and out of adjacent moulds, and tracks 17 and last carrier 18 for movement of the lasts from side to side. Referring to Fig. 2, last 9a is attached to base 19 from which project lugs 21, 22 into slots 23, 24 in a last-carrying block 25. This block is driven along the guide table 26 in track 14 by the piston 33 to which it is connected via piston rod 32. When one pair of lasts has returned from the moulds all the lasts are moved laterally on carrier 18, Fig. 3, which has cross-shaped members 36, 37 and 38 and T-shaped members 39, 40 abutting against sides of the last bases 19 and the top plate 35. Lateral movement is provided by member 37 being connected to piston 45 via arm 41, this movement being sufficient to bring the other pair of lasts into position ready for movement into and out of the moulds.
