PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel transition metal compound that has high activity as a catalyst component for olefin polymerization. SOLUTION: The novel transition metal compound is a compound having five cyclopentadienyl ligands wherein four cyclopentadienyl ligands are each independently coordinated to either one of the metals byη5-bond and one cyclopentadienyl ligand is bridged between two transition metals of the Group IV of the Periodic Table and is coordinated to the two transition metals by aσ-πallyl bond.
