PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten duration time taken from power-on to a videotape recording start. SOLUTION: An optical disk recorder comprises a video and sound source, a moving picture encoding part, a cache memory part, a disk recording part and a control part. The control part turns on the video and sound source, the moving picture encoding part, the cache memory part and the disk recording part and starts initialization after power-on, starts to store encoded data outputted from the moving picture encoding part in the cache memory part when receiving a video recording start signal after the video and sound source, the moving picture encoding part and the cache memory part are completely initialized, and controls the disk recording part so as to start videotape recording from the cache memory part to a disk when the disk recording part is completely initialized.
