<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a living motion detection method and device capable of easily performing various combinations and arrangements of sensors without alternating a program. <P>SOLUTION: An input part 5 transmits, on receipt of a signal from each sensor 2<SB>1</SB>-2<SB>n</SB>, the signal to a sensor reaction definition part 6. The sensor reaction definition part 6 smoothes the signals from each sensor 2<SB>1</SB>-2<SB>n</SB>based on a reaction definition for smoothing the signal, and transmits the smoothed sensor signal to a log retention part 7 and a living motion determination part 8. The log retention part 7 stores the smoothed sensor signal as a log. The living motion determination part 8 determines, based on the smoothed signal, a living motion in reference to a living motion definition expression in which each living motion in home is preliminarily defined, and transmits the determination result (living motion name, living motion start time, and living motion end time) to the log storage part 7. The log storage part 7 stores the determination result transmitted from the living motion determination part 8 as a log, and transmits it to an output part 9.
