PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preheating apparatus which can reduce the period to completely turn on a light source and saves energy, and to provide a projector equipped with the preheating apparatus. SOLUTION: The projector is equipped with a preheating apparatus 10A. The preheating apparatus 10A preheats a lamp 416 by irradiating the lamp 416 with laser light. The preheating apparatus 10A comprises a laser light output 11 and a drive controlling part 12 to drive and control the laser light output part 11 in accordance with an inputted signal.
