PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain drive reduced in load to be applied to all of chain drive parts by remarkably reducing a large force or the maximum force appearing in a short time, in regard to a chain drive for an internal combustion engine having a driving wheel 2, a driven wheel 3, an endless circulating chain 1 for communicating these wheels 2 and 3 with each other, a chain tensioner 9 for working on a slacked side 7 of the chain 1, and an auxiliary tension device 12 loaded with a spring 13 to work on a tensile side 6 of the chain 1 and arranged freely to turn. SOLUTION: Other driven wheel 4 is fitted to the tensile side 6 of the chain drive, and used as a driving wheel for a balance shaft supported freely to turn to adjust the force and the torque to be generated during operation of the internal combustion engine.
