PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rope tensioner which prevents a strand from breaking by uniformly applying a load on a plurality of strands when a worker falls. SOLUTION: Respective sectional forms of a rope guide surface 2a formed in a rope guide frame 1 and of a rope sandwiching surface 9 of an engaging claw 5 for sandwiching a safety rope L<SB>o</SB>between the rope guide surfaces 2a, are formed in an arc shape along an outer periphery of the safety rope L<SB>o</SB>. When tensile load is imposed on the safety rope L<SB>o</SB>to prevent a worker from falling, three lines of ropes are almost uniformly sandwiched by the arc-shaped rope guide surfaces 2a and the rope holding surface 9 so as to make the tensile load uniformly imposed on three lines of strands a, which prevents the strands from breaking. A projection 10 is provided to the rope holding surface 9 to lock the safety rope L<SB>o</SB>, which leads to improvement of safety. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
