The present invention relates to a tip assembly to form a smooth transition between (a) an overhead electric line against which a current collector runs and rubs to collect current from the overhead line, and (b) a line junction hardware mounted at a junction point of the line. An elongated wear sheath having a U-shaped cross section defines two longitudinal side walls and a longitudinal bottom wall, the longitudinal bottom wall having an inner line-receiving concave face and an outer current collector running and rubbing convex face. An elongated line retainer having a longitudinal line-engaging concave face is structured to fit between the two longitudinal side walls with the longitudinal line-engaging concave face turned toward the inner line-receiving concave face. At least one mechanical fastener is used to secure the elongated line retainer between the two longitudinal side walls. In operation, the inner line-receiving concave face is applied to the overhead line, the elongated line retainer is placed between the two longitudinal sid e walls with the longitudinal line-engaging concave face applied to the line, and the elongated line retainer is secured between the two longitudinal side wal ls by means of the at least one fastener to thereby firmly hold the overhead electric line within the tip assembly. The elongated wear sheath has a dista l end, the outer current collector running and rubbing convex face tapers toward the distal end, and the longitudinal bottom wall defines, at this distal end, a V-shaped slot through which the line extends. The tapered outer convex face defines with the V-shaped slot the smooth transition between the overhead line and the junction hardware.
