The folding speed bump, or sleeping policeman, is primarily for use near schools, colleges, airports and other places where the speed bump is only required for short periods at a time and comprises a number of segments 1 that with a flat surface and a curved surface and which are connected to a base 6 via hinges 9. In use, the base is secured in a road so that it presents an upwardly facing concave surface and the segments can move between a stored position, where they are located within the base so that their flat surfaces are flush with the road, and an in-use position where they are pivoted approximately 180 degrees to present an obstacle for a vehicle to drive over. The segments may be provided with reflectors 5 and locks 4 to secure them in the desired position. |
