Reinforced polymer membrane has layer(s) based on polymer(s) with acid properties and layer(s) of reinforcing material with basic properties, such that at least one outer surface of the polymer layer adheres to at least one outer surface of the reinforcing layer by electrostatic interaction. An Independent claim is also included for a process for reinforcing a polymer membrane by: (a) modifying the reinforcing material with a basic silane; and (b) contacting it with a polymer with acid properties, so that the polymer adheres to the reinforcement by electrostatic interaction.
