Method and apparatus for applying a packaging hood of stretch foil on a palettized load

The procedure consists of opening the sleeve (10) above the palleted load and folding its sides in accordion pleats on inclined fingers with the aid of rollers (14) turning in a first direction. The sleeve is then stretched horizontally to make an opening larger than the load and drawn over the load from the top, unfolding it as it descends. The fingers are inclined at 0 - 25 degrees to the vertical to achieve an accumulated sleeve portion with evenly-spaced pleats at the lower ends (12A) of the fingers before the sleeve is stretched horizontally. As the load is covered the process is halted at a predetermined level and the direction of the rollers reversed to create a coil before continuing.
