A cello case (7) has a main section and a hinged lid. Both the main section and the lid have a profiled socket and lining which matches the outer profile of the cello. The lid lining esp. has an elongated detent (14, 15) which receives the upwards-projecting strings and bridge as these project above the main body of the instrument.
