The mechanism to clean an open-end spinning station, at a mobile maintenance unit which travels along the spinning machine, has a centering component with a cleaner on a carrier which is positioned away from the center. The cleaner (3) has a carrier (31) which supports a suction jet (33) and a centering unit (32). During the cleaning action, the centering unit is in a fixed spatial position in relation to the suction jet. A monitor controls the position of the suction jet in relation to the centering unit. The control monitor uses a position sensor (341) and an evaluation unit (342), to give control commands according to the sensor data.
