A sectored (A, B, C, N) flywheel mass rotates rapidly about its center of gravity which coincides with the main axis (6). Sectors can swing in a plane at right angles to the main axis, and tend to adopt a position at right angles to it. When the direction of the main axis is varied, the sectors rotate in a different plane, at an angle to it. Correctors deliver short impulses to the sectors, returning them to their former position, or causing controlled rotation through an angle, with respect to the main plane.
