A lathe clamping chuck has a flange (2) and main body (3) attached to a spindle. The body (3) has a number of radial guide grooves (4) to which jaws are bolted (6). The main body (3) is retained esp. by a spring (19) against, and is axially adjustable with respect to, the flange (2).
