The structure comprises a substrate (21), and an optical diffractive unit (23) in a section between two optical guiding units for coupling optical signals. The optical guiding units have different refractive indexes. One optical guiding unit extends longitudinally and another optical guiding unit extends in a direction transverse to the former guiding unit. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of manufacturing a structure; (b) a method of coupling optical signals.
