Cellular metal foam having closed cell walls is produced by introducing gas bubbles of suitable size and at a suitable rate below the surface of an otherwise non-stirred or non-agitated molten metal bath. For example, aluminum-silicon alloy, including silicon carbide foam stabilizatio n particles has been thus processed into cellular metal of, as low as, one to two percent relative density and with good cell walls and quite regular cell siz e.
