PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a bookmark mode in an image signal processing system are provided to directly confirm still pictures of a bookmark position, select the confirmed still image, and reproduce an image from the position of the selected bookmark image. CONSTITUTION: A control unit judges whether a bookmark insertion command is inputted in a recording or reproducing mode(310,320). If the bookmark insertion command is inputted, the control unit stores image information of a picture corresponding to a position into which a bookmark is inserted in a memory(330-350). The control unit matches address information of the memory with bookmark position information of a recording medium, and registers matched information in a bookmark table(360). If a bookmark display command is inputted, the control unit displays image information stored in the memory on a plurality of regions divided on one picture.
