The supply to the heating resistors in a train comprised of a locomotive and a number of coaches is controlled by an electromagnetic switch, the circuit of the operating coil of which cannot be completed unless all the jumpers between the locomotive and the coaches are in the respective sockets and the covers of the unused sockets closed and that the brake vacuum pipe throughout the train is continuous. A train comprising a locomotive 10 and coaches 11, 12 in which coaches are situated heating resistors 19, has the supply to the heaters controlled by a switch 16 having an operating coil 16a. The supply circuit for the heaters between the train elements is connected by means of power jumpers 20 ... 25 and sockets 26 ... 31 and the control circuit for the operating coil 16a from the print 40 is connected by means of control jumpers 34 ... 39 and sockets 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51. The end jumpers on the locomotive are housed in sockets 32, 51 whilst on the coach 12 the end jumpers are housed in sockets 32, 45. The circuits are completed by switches 52, 54 which are closed when the vacuum brake operating pipe is continuous and when the covers of the unused sockets 26, 31 are closed, thereby making switches 53, 55. The sockets for the power and control jumpers are so arranged that the covers must be lifted before the jumpers can be inserted and that a power jumper must be inserted before, and removed after, the associated control jumper. With apparatus on each side of the train as shown in the drawing a train may be made up in any desired order or the coaches reversed end-forend. |
