Protective device (10) for an electrical socket has cover component (20) which either covers or frees the holes (18) of the socket and displaceably arranged in a housing (11) fixed to the socket. With a spring component (15), it is movable crossways to the holes into a closed position or by a socket pin into a position opening the holes. This cover component is pivotally arranged in the housing and on it and the housing are devices which work in conjunction with each other so that the cover component is locked in the closed position. It can be pivoted away from the holes by the action of the socket pin.
