The remote electrochemical marking of a metal wall (2) in a confined environment, consists of: (a) applying on the metal wall a plate (20) of insulating material of a marking head and incorporating a groove (21) with a shape corresponding to the marking to be produced; (b) putting an electrolyte containing lithium nitrate in circulation in the groove; (c) applying a cathodic potential to an electrode and putting the electrode in contact with the electrolyte; (d) carrying the metal wall to an anodic potential; (e) passing, between the electrode and the metal wall via the electrolyte in the groove, a current to produce the marking by surface erosion of the wall. Independent claims are also included for: (a) an electrochemical device for the remote marking of a metal wall in a confined environment; (b) an electrochemical marking head for a metal wall.
