PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for continuous treatment of a metallic strip capable of preventing the degradation in washing efficiency and plating efficiency by preventing the suction of the metallic strip due to accompaniment streams during high-speed threading and by removing bubbles and a method of using the same. SOLUTION: The electrode is divided to a plurality in the threading direction of the metallic strip. The slits of the divided electrodes 11a, 11b and 11c are made variable and when the threading speed of the metallic strip is low, the angles of the slits of the divided electrodes 11a, 11b and 11c are kept in nearly the same direction and the bubbles due to buoyancy are removed. The accompaniment streams are suppressed by setting the angles of the slits of the divided electrodes 11c on the start side of threading and those of the divided electrodes 11a and 11b on the end side of threading at opposite directions when the threading speed of the metallic strip is high.
