PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of making uniform the electrostatic charging potential on the surface of a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a scorotron charger 22 which is arranged opposite to the photoreceptor 21 coated with a photosensitive layer 21b by dipping and has a discharge electrode 22a and a grid 22b for charging the surface of the photoreceptor 21. The aperture rate of the grid 22b is made larger on the side of a dip upper part 21b2 of the photoreceptor 21 and smaller on the side of a dip lower part 21b1 to cancel an electrostatic charging potential difference on the photoreceptor.
