PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select resolution appropriate to a connected display unit. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus 100 comprises an interface 112 for input to which data are input, a computation section 132 for computing the number of vertical lines, a storage section 118 for storing information, an interface 114 for output which outputs data, and a decision section 130 for deciding one resolution. The decision section 130 comprises an estimator 136 which specifies the numbers of vertical lines stored in the storage section 118 as candidates and estimates the closest value among the specified candidates for the number of vertical lines as an estimated number of vertical lines, a selector 138 which selects candidates for resoluiton, and a fixer 140 which, when the number of candidates for resoluiton selected by the selector 138 is one, fixes the selected resolution as a candidate as one resolution.
