PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a tool for positioning of an ion source for mass spectroscopy, which can position the tip of a capillary column B with good reproducibility without breaking vacuum of an ion source casing D or depending on viewing. SOLUTION: When the column is inserted toward an inner chamber from a base chamber, a column positioning tool, which has a part having the same outline as the inner chamber without a sample inlet at that part, is fixed and held on the base chamber in advance instead of the inner chamber. The column is inserted until it comes in contact with the tool to position the insertion depth of the column. The column positioning tool has a part having the same outline and the same size as the inner chamber and has blind plug structure without a sample inlet. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
