PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lift a toilet seat by a stepping operation, to lower the toilet seat with an opening and closing lid without leaving it open in the case of lowering the lifted toilet seat, and to open and close only the opening and closing lid independently. SOLUTION: A western-style toilet is equipped with a stepping member 17 provided in the front of a main body 3 of the toilet including the toilet seat 5 and the opening and closing lid 7 and a connecting mechanism 27 which remains in an uncoupled state constantly and is changed into a connected state for an integration of the toilet seat 5 with the lid 7 when the toilet seat 5 is lifted at a prescribed angle by the stepping operation of the stepping member 17. The western-style toilet enables an operation to turn the toilet seat 5 together with the lid 7 by the stepping member 17 when the connecting mechanism 27 is in a coupled state, and enables an operation to turn the only lid 5 independently when the connecting mechanism 27 is in the uncoupled state.
