A control device (18) measures out portions of an operating substance flowing through a condenser (14) and a bypass (36) by relying on ambient temperature and a fuel cell stack's operating temperature (FCSOT). Variation in operating pressure and the FCSOT reduces a fuel cell system's operating temperature so that wetting an operating substance with a wetting unit (12) can be avoided. An Independent claim is also included for a fuel cell system with a fuel cell stack, a wetting unit, a condenser and a control device.
