The center of the reel is a welded metal fabrication consisting of a square section core (1) with reinforcing ribs (1a, 1b), end flanges (2, 2a), and intermediate flanges (3). On this is mounted a cylindrical shell with reinforcing beads (4a) and a middle join (4b, 4c). The shell is wrapped with a paper layer (5) less than 3 cm thick. The diameter is 17 to 20 cm and the length of the core is 120 to 180 cm.
