PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain output light of an extremely sharp band with spontaneous emission suppressed, in an external cavity laser beam source. SOLUTION: The external cavity is composed of an enhanced reflection film 21a of a semiconductor laser 21 and a partial reflection mirror 24. A wavelength selection element 23 is inserted into the external cavity. Light transmitted through the partial reflection mirror 24 is reflected on a corner mirror 25 to be incident again into the wavelength selection element 23, and then light selected by the wavelength selection element 23 is taken out as the output light.
