PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring the percentage of water content and an instrument for measuring the percentage of water content for accurately measuring the percentage of water content of a heated object, and to provide a food waste disposer. SOLUTION: Food waste material B to be disposed is heated by a heating means 71 for heating time t1 with heat quantity Q1 and then the temperature of the heating means 71 is measured by a measuring means 72 to find a temperature rise valueΔT1 of the heating means 71. If the value is larger than a prescribed temperature rise valueθ1, the heat quantity of the heating means 71 is kept at Q1. If the value is not larger than the prescribed valueθ1, the heat quantity is changed to Q2 larger than Q1. Thereafter, heating is performed with the heat quantity Q1 or heat quantity Q2 for heating time t2, and then the temperature of the heating means 71 is measured to find a temperature rise valueΔT2 of the heating means 71. This value is collated with a relation between a previously derived temperature rise of the heating means 71 and the percentage of water content of the waste material B to measure the percentage of water content of the heated waste material B.
