PURPOSE: An array substrate for a liquid crystal display and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to simplify the complex pattern of a storage portion by adapting a diffraction pattern applied to a channel portion of a thin film transistor to the storage portion of a common method, thereby reducing the number of masks. CONSTITUTION: A pixel electrode(115) is directly used as an upper electrode, that is, a data metal is not used as the upper electrode of a storage electrode. To reduce the distance between the upper electrode and the storage lower electrode(116), a through hole(310) is formed at an upper portion of a semiconductor layer(113'), thereby contacting the pixel electrode(115) with the semiconductor layer. The thin film transistor is a switching device for applying an electric field to the pixel electrode(115) of the pixel region. At this time, a gate electrode(114) of the thin film transistor is extended to a gate line(119) and the source electrode(111) is extended from the data line(110).
