PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel hinge device having an extremely high commercial value and electronic equipment using the hinge device. SOLUTION: The hinge device pivots a first member 1 and a second member 2. A cam 4 is provided to a first coupling element 3 coupled with the first member 1 through the medium of a shaft shaped part 8. A cam engaging part 6 engaged with the cam 4 is provided to a second coupling element 5 coupled with the second member 2. When the first member 1 is relatively rotated to the second member 2, the cam 4 is rotated to the cam engaging element 6 together with the shaft shaped part 8 so as to make the cam 4 and the cam engaging part 6 in an engaging state at a prescribed rotating position. While the cam 4 is provided in a freely sliding manner in a disengaging direction along the shaft shaped part 8 with respect to the cam engaging element 6, an engagement urging mechanism 7 for urging the cam 4 in an engaging direction is provided to the shaft shaped part 8. According to relative rotation of the first member 1 and the second member 2, the cam 4 and the cam engaging element 6 are urged by the engagement urging mechanism 7 to be engaged.
