PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air-cooled internal combustion engine, in which efficiency of cooling with air is improved in a cooling-air passage, an ignition plug is installed in a position where the plug is easily detachable, and an effective air-cooling is attained. SOLUTION: In the air-cooled internal combustion engine, a valve train is provided above a combustion chamber, and a fore-and-aft cooling-air passage is provided between the combustion chamber and the valve train along an exhaust port and an intake port. Between the ports, a lateral cooling air passage is provided in communication with the fore-and-aft cooling-air passage. The ignition plug is installed in the lateral cooling-air passage. Cooling fins are provided curvedly from the fore-and-aft cooling-air passage to the lateral cooling-air passage. The center line of the exhaust port is inclined relative to the fore-and-aft direction of the combustion engine so that the front opening of the fore-and-aft cooling-air passage may be spread.
