PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator which excellently perform gas-liquid separation of liquid mixture containing a large amount of oil mist without increasing the height of an engine, and enhance the productivity, and an engine having the separator for a jet propulsion type small planing boat. SOLUTION: A separator has a container 41 having an upper first space A1 and a lower second space A2 which are communicated with each other, a gas mixture inflow pipe Ps to communicate with the second space A2 is connected to a side portion of the container 41, a liquid discharge pipe Pd is connected to a lower portion thereof, and a gas discharge pipe Pu is connected to an upper portion. A connection portion from the second space A2 to the first space A1 and a connection portion from the first space A1 to the gas discharge pipe Pu form a so-called rat-proof structure. In addition, the flowing direction at one end portion of the gas mixture inflow pipe Ps connected to a side portion of the container 41 is substantially agreed with the circumferential direction of the container 41.
