PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintered compact of uniform thickness which can be formed of thick and long metallic fibers. SOLUTION: A metallic fiber sintered compact manufacturing method comprises a first step of obtaining a first mixture body 51A in which metallic fibers KS are mixed with disappearable fibers to disappear at the sintering temperature of the metallic fibers KS, a second step of obtaining a second mixture body 51E in which fibers are entangled with each other by needling the first mixture body 51A, and a third step of obtaining a porous sintered compact 21 in which the disappearable fibers disappear and the metal fibers are sintered to each other by heating the second mixture body 51E pressed to a predetermined thickness by a press 71 to the sintering temperature of the metallic fibers KS. Preferably, the mean length of the metallic fibers and disappearable fibers are set to be 50-100 mm, and the mean diameter of the metallic fibers is set to be≥50μm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
