<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that realizes a reduction in consumption power during a standby period and, at the same time, secure monitoring of an open/close state of an opening/closing mechanism in a power-saving mode by simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a power source device 3 that supplies voltages of at least two systems including a drive system voltage and a control system voltage that is lower than the drive system voltage; an opening/closing mechanism 118 which is put in an open/close state; an interlock switch 119 which is turned on/off in accordance with the open/close state of the opening/closing mechanism 118; an engine controller 301 which detects a state in which the drive system voltage is supplied via the interlock switch 119; and a waste-toner full detection sensor that is driven by the control system voltage and detects the open/close state of the opening/closing mechanism 118. In an normal operation, the open/close state of the opening/closing mechanism 118 is detected by the interlock switch 119.
