<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of effectively using discarded toner, as for an in-line system image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is constituted by arranging a cartridge filled with a prescribed quantity of black toner on the uppermost stream side in the carrying direction of an intermediate transfer body equipped with a developing means and a photoreceptor drum. And, the developing means and the photoreceptor drum are formed so as to become the same shape as those used in another process cartridge. Besides, the image forming apparatus comprises a process of recovering the toner left after a transfer process on the intermediate transfer body by the photoreceptor drum in the black cartridge and a process of recovering the recovered toner on the photoreceptor drum by the developing means.
