<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of always maintaining a good image quality by preventing reversed toner from being transited from a toner carrier to an image carrier while suppressing the scattering of regular toner, preventing the toner from sticking to an upper guide member and a lower guide member and preventing a recording material from soiling by soiled toner. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus comprises the image carrier, a toner image forming means for forming a toner image on the image carrier, a transfer means for transferring the toner image on the image carrier to the recording material, a cleaning means provided on the downstream side in the moving direction of the image carrier than the transfer means and for cleaning the toner on the image carrier and a means for fixing the toner image on the recording medium, and adopts a two-component magnetic brush developing method by which AC electric field and DC electric field are applied superimposed and applied to a developer carrier. In the apparatus, an AC developing bias is applied in a state tha the developer carrier is stopped after image formation, and then, when the AC bias is stopped, the bias is terminated in the direction of the electric field developing the toner in the direction of the developer carrier of the AC bias waveform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
