PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect highly accurately a water leak position in a waste disposal site even if measuring electrodes are not arranged at high density. SOLUTION: A current is sent through an impervious sheet, and an adjacent potential difference between many measuring electrodes is measured successively, to thereby acquire the plane electric field distribution. On the other hand, this method has a peak detection process (A) wherein an apparent resistivity distribution is determined by quadrupole method arrangement, and an intensity distribution of a leakage current is determined by using it to thereby extract peaks, and the number and the positions of the peaks are used as initial values of a leakage spot, and an inverse analytical process (B) wherein, assuming that point current sources exist on the determined peaks, each source is expressed by parameters of the position and a current value, and the waste disposal site is modeled and the potential difference between the measuring electrodes by the point current sources is theoretically predicted, and correction of the position of the point current source and the current value is repeated so that the sum of squares of residuals between the predicted potential difference and a measured potential difference becomes minimum, and the position when the sum of squares of residuals converges sufficiently is specified as the water leakage position.
