PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging apparatus, a camera apparatus, and a control method thereof whereby deformation of an image due to a focal plane shutter of a CMOS solid-state imaging element is decreased and a range finding frame is acquired during an imaging operation to efficiently perform AF control without using an imaging means exclusive to AF control. SOLUTION: The camera apparatus performs shutter and read operations in a solid-state imaging element 102 at a rate faster than a frame rate of image data completed on the basis of a prescribed moving picture standard and temporarily stores image data read at a faster speed to a storage device 105. Then the image data in the storage device 105 are read while slowing down the reading rate to the frame rate and the read image data are outputted to a post-stage, so as to decrease the deformation of the image of a moving object. Further, the camera apparatus reads the range finding image used for the AF control by utilizing a blanking period caused at the high speed shutter and read operations to perform the AF control without stopping the imaging operation.
