PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read an image to the terminal end of a sheet at an image reading position of a manuscript. SOLUTION: In a copying machine 90, the sheet having the image is sandwiched by a main roller 6 and at least three conveying rollers 17, 18 and 19 having a diameter smaller than that of the main roller and contacting with the main roller and is inversely conveyed along the main roller, the sheet is conveyed to a reading line 5a facing the lowest position of the main roller, and an image sensor for reading the image reads the image. An upstream conveying roller 17 is disposed on the upstream side of the image sensor in the sheet conveying direction, a before-reading conveying roller 18 is disposed between the upstream conveying roller and the reading line, an after-reading conveying roller 19 is disposed on the downstream side of the reading line, and the diameter of the before-reading conveying roller is set smaller than that of the upstream conveying roller.
