PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply device for an electric discharge machine, which optimizes an on-off operation relationship between two switching elements during a control duration over which one of the switching elements is turned off and the other one is turned on over a predetermined period. SOLUTION: When a pulse 1 and a pulse 2 are supplied as current pulses to an interpolar gap formed between a wire electrode and a workpiece, the switching element TR1 is turned off and the switching element TR2 is kept in a turned-on state over a predetermined period during a control duration T2 of the pulse 1. On the other hand, during a control duration T2' of the pulse 2, the switching element TR2 is turned off and the switching element TR1 is kept in a turned-on state over a predetermined period. In this manner loading and heating are borne by the two switching elements in a balanced manner without changing the current pulses supplied to the interpolar gap. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
