PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive, compact biochip reading apparatus by providing biochips having a confocal optical system. SOLUTION: The biochips comprise a substrate having a plurality of samples and a light-shielding member that is provided at a surface at a side opposite to a surface provided with the sample of the substrate. The substrate has a lens corresponding to each of the substrates. The light-shielding member has an opening corresponding to each of the samples, and the sample and the opening are in a confocal relationship via the lens. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
