PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a liquid ejection head from abutting against a wiper when the liquid ejection head is advancing onto the scanning track thereof except when the wiper is required during wiping operation. SOLUTION: The liquid ejector 10 comprises a liquid ejection head 44 having a nozzle forming face and ejecting liquid from nozzles while scanning on the scanning track, a wiper 80 provided to advance/retract onto/from the scanning track of the liquid ejection head 44 and wiping the nozzle forming face thereof when the wiper advances onto the scanning track of the liquid ejection head 44, and a drive control section 110 for controlling relative movement of the wiper 80 and the liquid ejection head 44 by detecting the wiper 80 advancing onto the scanning track of the liquid ejection head 44.
