PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record on a recording medium without lowering a resolution. SOLUTION: A plotting part 5 generates bit map data with the use of inputted printing data. A data compressing part 9 compresses and encodes the generated bit map data for every predetermined unit, and at the same time calculates a compression ratio. Only compressed encoded data having the compression ratio of smaller than a predetermined value is stored in an image storage RAM 3b in a sequence of the compression encoding. Either bit map data obtained by expanding the compressed encoded data having the smaller compression ratio calculated by the data compressing part 9 than the predetermined value, or bit map data as a compression conversion original of compressed encoded data having the compression ratio calculated by the data compressing part 9 of not smaller than the predetermined value is sequentially transferred to a printing engine 1502.
