PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil-water separator, which stably performs work for separating oil and water contained in a used coolant over a long period of time and facilitates the long-term reutilization of the used coolant, at a low cost. SOLUTION: The cylindrical container 12 of a recovery means 5 floats or sinks corresponding to the surface level of the liquid flowing in the cylindrical container 12 to change a center-of-gravity balance and the angle of inclination of the container 12 with respect to the liquid surface of the coolant 2 is altered. The opening 13 provided to a crown part is immersed in the coolant 2 from the liquid surface thereof corresponding to the angle of inclination of the container 12 and a proper amount of floating oil 3 is allowed to flow in the container 12. The oil is sucked from the suction port 15 of the flexible tube 14 provided to the cylindrical bottom part of the container 12 by a suction means 6 not only to certainly prevent the suction of air but also to stably recover the oil 3. The suction means 6 has a pump constituted by assembling a double-acting type cylinder 18 and two-way control valves 21 and 22, which respectively communicate with two chambers 19 and 20 of the double-acting type cylinder 18, in a freely detachable manner and this pump has a function equal to that of a so-called perfect self-suction type pump.
